The Hyphen

Living the hyphen. The dash. It really is like a surf board. Granted I do not surf.. Tried a couple of times. No balance. Prefer the terra firma beneath my feet. Standing up on water even with a board between is not an easy task. So how does one live the hyphen. I think that is the question. Reading on the internet I get bits and pieces. I think that is what I like about it. Usually one or two paragraphs about something. Maybe a page or two. Short bite sized nuggets of information. More then that and my brain is toast. I can read a lot quickly but it is here and there and all around the very rarely all in one place. A book provides that hard copy but it is all in one place, one narriation. Books are good but most difficult to become absorbed in the text and writer. I would not say it is adult onset ADHD but there is something within that makes it most difficult to proceed.

The Big Switch: Rewiring the World, from Edison to Google (Kindle Edition)
by Nicholas Carr (Author)

Carr was on Colbert Report last night basiclly speaking of what you are speaking. He feels that we mimic our media sources. How our attention spans have been shortened over the past decades to that of a nanosecond. He confesses how he use to love a good novel but now can't get past 3 pages. (How many people have you heard say the same thing?)

Steven Colbert, to drive point home, was on his Blackberry thru the interview. Too, too funny. I wouldn't go on my explanation of his book because while I was 'watching', I was also doing laundry, brushing teeth, preparing next morning's coffee and of course, texting friend about what to wear next day....
